About I'm 17 years old high school graduate looking for work in Houston

I'm 17 years old high school graduate looking for work in Houston?
I graduated high school early (I have my diploma) But I'm not starting college until I have enough money saved up. I need ideas on where to look, I've applied at Starbucks, toys r us, and the grocery stores but have not heard back from any of them. Does anyone know of stores that hire at 17 or anyone with a high school diploma? I live in Houston Texas, if that helps at all... but for now... I'll keep looking!

I'd go everywhere! Retail places aren't hiring now. Get a greensheet and see what job listings they have. Get a JobsHouston magazine and start applying. Have you gone to temp agencies? There are plenty of jobs out there- you're just looking in the wrong places. I'd strongly recommend not delaying your education. Start at a junior college- like San Jac. You should qualify for financial aid, which will pay all your tuition.
Answer 2 :
Any restaurant will hire you, you won't get rich at it but it's honest. Any income beats no income. Turnover is high at food places so you'll stand a good chance at being hired right away. It's not glamorous and at times it can really suck, but being fresh out of high school it's where lots of students and aspiring students get their start. Many listings you'll see in the GreenSheet can be deceptive, beware of big print ads promising cash bonuses or unrealistic income promises, these are usually telemarketing boiler room operations which are notorious for NOT paying their employees. Don't let money stop you from getting an education. Apply for loans, grants, scholarships, or work-study programs. Talk to a financial aid counselor at the community college. You really don't want to get caught in the minimum wage trap, so make a plan for your future and stick to it. Even if you don't declare a major right away at least work on your academics. Good luck.
